SodaStream Fizz Feb 06, 2014 yumme Equipment 0 When it comes to making homemade soda, there is no name more famous than SodaStream. No other brand has cornered the turn-tap-water-to-fizzy-soda market quite like this UK company and every year thousands of new consumers turn to SodaStream for their sparkling drink needs. If you are looking to get involved in the fun, here’s our SodaStream Fizz review, giving you the pros and cons of one of companies newest products. Pros Let’s start our SodaStream Fizz review by getting into what we thought was great about this machine. The Fizz is the first SodaStream model to include the companies ‘Fizz Chip’ – a gas level indicator that monitors the amount of CO2 left in the carbonating cylinder. This is an excellent feature and is paired with a neat little LED screen that tells you when the canister is low so you do not run out of CO2 in the middle of preparing a drink. The machine is very fast when it comes to operation and easy to use too. Making sparkling water took no more than 30 seconds and the vast majority of flavors are of the same quality that you expect from a purchased can of soda. Particularly wonderful are the sparkling juice flavors, which are a must try if you buy a Fizz. We also found that drinks were able to keep their fizz for a lot longer than store-bought bottles, thanks to a tight seal cap. Cons Our biggest disappointment of the SodaStream Fizz review was the cheapness of the plastic body. It seems like SodaStream may have overdone it a little with the plastic and, while it has allowed it to make a lighter model, the Fizz is bulky and does not look as though it would handle a fall too well. Another downside is that there is only one carbonating bottle included. Yes, this is often the case with SodaStream machines, but at the price and taking into account that the bottle must be replaced every two-years, it would be nice to have a spare. Like all other SodaStream products, the issue of expense also hampers the Fizz. Not in terms of what it costs to buy this model (you can easily justify that if you intend on using it regularly), but in keeping up the habit. Buying CO2 refills, new carbonating bottles, and drinks flavors will soon amount to a lot more than it costs to buy soda from a store. Conclusion What we found with our SodaStream Fizz review was a good product that is only really suitable for a niche market. Unless you are into drinking carbonated water/soda, it is hard to recommended purchasing one of these machines.
